The person behind Stef Keycaps, and why a keycap set about mail exists at all.
Hi, I'm Stefan. I'm a student with a soft spot for electrical engineering and anything with a circuit inside it, but what I really enjoy is building things myself. When something catches my interest I don't stop at using it. I want to know how it works, make it look right, and put the whole thing together.
Stef Keycaps is where a lot of that ends up. It's my own brand and, honestly, my creative identity: a name I want to put on keycaps, packaging, labels and whatever comes after. GMK PACKAGE is the first thing to carry it.
Why keycaps
Keyboards sit right where technology, design and personal taste meet. A keycap is a small, useful object you touch all day, and it can still carry a whole idea. That is what hooked me: taking something ordinary and giving it an identity of its own.
Where it started
GMK Parcel was the set that made the idea click. It took the stuff that shows up at your door and made it worth looking at. I wanted to take that thought somewhere else, with a warmer palette that isn't tied to one country's postal service, so the set reads as mail anywhere. Boxes, stamps, labels, cardboard: GMK PACKAGE is my own take on that language.
Built by hand
I'm not only designing the set. I built this website too, along with the checkout, the shipping logic, the order system and the servers it all runs on, instead of dropping the set into a template store. A lot of it I didn't know how to do when I started. Figuring it out is half the fun, and it means every part of this run is something I understand and can stand behind.
The small stuff
I care about the details most people never consciously notice: spacing, proportions, type, colour, the way something moves when you tap it. If it looks like it came out of a template, I'm not done with it yet. That goes for the keycaps and for every page you are looking at.
Where this is going
GMK PACKAGE is the first run, not the last. I want Stef Keycaps to grow into more sets and, eventually, objects beyond keycaps. I'd love to collaborate with makers and brands I admire, and to be properly part of this community rather than someone who only shows up to sell. Joining this run is what makes the next one possible.
